the gowanus creek ecology center reclaims the lot next to 300 huntington street in order to provide the gowanus neighborhood critical storm resiliency through a vast public park. the design of the landscape follows the historic creek mapping as well as the current expected flooding patterns. the ecology center occupies a historic six-story factory which has been renovated to fit the demands of an urban ecological research center and museum. circulation has been pushed to the exterior and the floor plates have been filled in to allow flexibility across the spaces. the museum features rotating walls which force circulation through the exhibits and allow varying occupancy experiences. a two story addition sits on the roof and creates a large public events space.
